With
California history as a hobby, I have walked the coast of California from
Mexico to Oregon and part of our trails, driven the highways and byways
of California. Yosemite gives my spirit the knowledge that it is the soul
of California. A look at your pictures now and then is like vitamins.
I love
this site
I'm
currently an amateur photographer and I really admire your photographs!
what ASA do you use for your film? the images you captured are really breathtaking
(pertaining to the nature shots). I liked the way you were able to capture
an angle with the tree wherein you were able to show the contrast of the
textures of the tree and the ground behind it!

Very
enjoyable, easy on the eyes. At the same time, they are great landscapes,

Beautiful

you shoot some color too. I think you have a great eye for a B&W photographer.

Hi Craig, how is Poody doing? Tell him I said hi. Tell Miss Kitty I said hi also. Also, tell the big guy who works with you to get with it. I also wanted to comment on your website, I think it is excellent work. Your photos are beautiful. You are an excellent photographer. Thanks, Susie
Beautiful luminous work. You have great mastery over the photographic process which is evident even through the computer monitor. Nathan
i just
wanted to say that you do great work i enjoy it very much. keep up the
good work craig
Wonderful site! your photographs are beautiful. I have been interested in nature photos for some time. I am considering doing work as you do except on the East Coast, specifically the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your site has been the best in quality have have visited. Thanks for your service. Darrell
I am
looking at getting back into 5x7 work with a Deardorf 5x7 special. I have
an old Elwood 5x7 I could modify or I could just buy an Zone VI 5x7 with
a VC cold light head used on Ebay. I have been told that the Zone VI has
a problem with edge falloff and requires heavy edge burning. Is that your
experience ? I could adapt my Elwood 5x7 with a 8x10 cold light head and
have plenty of coverage. ????
Your
images are exactly what I've been trying to achieve ever since I took up
photography two years ago. I love the tonality of your shots and the simplicity.
I look forward to seeing more.

Hi,
-Tuesday,
August 10, 2004 at 00:18:05 (EDT)
Having fished the eastern Sierra for the past 40 years and photographed there for the past 7 years, and hoping to retire there some day, your images are of great interest to me. You seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and I appreciate how much effort and time that takes. Although I agree that 4x5 is the ultimate format for landscape (unless one is masochistic enough to lug an 8x10 around), and as I seldom print larger than 11x14, I prefer the convenience of roll film. I shoot primarily with a horseman 985 in 6x9 format, although I have an old 2x3 crown graphic with several pre-war, uncoated Zeiss Tessar and Goerz lenses I love to shoot with also. Your shots of "relics", are of particular interest to me, as they are one of my favorite subjects. I recently returned from a three week excursion shooting ghost towns in central New Mexico, and my wife can barely get me out of the darkroom these past couple of weeks. You
have a great eye for uncluttered, straight forward composition, although
I find the long exposures of flowing water a bit tiresome. You print beautifully,
and I hope to someday to be able to master that art as you apparently have.
I sincerely hope that film and wet printing survive the digital blitz,
and as long as people like you keep the world aware of how wonderful these
methods are, I'm sure they will.
I love
you
Great

You are obviously an acomplished professional. Though I have little time for my first love (photography)... I'm a web designer w/6 new sites coming out by summer's end. My question: Will $1,000 buy me a "decent enough" digital SLR to produce printable and saleable work. I suspect you use large format still cams (film). Seeing your work almost undermines my entire web marketing business plan. When
I publish these ventures... I'll be back in touch. It's rare to come across
real talent.

I'm only a novice "photog". This work makes me yearn to move from the NC Hills... and "go west"! Fantastic Stuff! Jim

Craig,
Great site. Well set up and easy to use. The photography is wonderful.
I especially enjoyed looking at your equipment list. Most photographers
don't list that and I find it fun to see what other photographers use.
I also liked your disclaimer about the use of the equipment. It is the
talent and work of the photographer that makes the difference and not the
equipment per se.
A little
late but I want to wish you a good luck in this year Happy New Year

Hello Artist, it is you who cast our mood. It is like I am a child, wide eyed, stand next to mystery & a dream. As these look to me as they do to you. Photos speaking loudly of their memories, now part of mine, haunting peacefulness and bliss, as if I stood beside you. It is I, in love with shades of black and of white, as well as you are obvious. Simple it is what our three eyes capture, it is us who only frame it. From: an appreciative artist, appreciating art. -Tuesday,

Your
work is absolutely beautiful. I am currently in school for photography

Love
your photography, would love to come out west to do some photgraphy,do you
have any classes out there .Trying to save my pennies so that I can make
the trip, have a view camera and would like to put it to use. I do a lot
of impressionistic photography. Thanks Jim Moses
Dear Mr. Wells, I am a semi retired medical device company executive who is returning to his love of photography. I see we share a love for the high Sierra and was pleased to see that we stood on almost the same place on the shore of Tenaya Lake to capture an image. Mine just done recently. I really love your work and your sense of quality. I was
wondering if you do any personal teaching or if I could perhaps observe
you work in the darkroom in order to increase my very old and lacking skills
in this area.
Your images are wonderful... please let me know as new ones are posted. With kindest regards, Phil Radlick -Tuesday,

Your
work is incredible. Your ability to capture the forestry and the feelings
a hiker/nature lover enjoys while in the woods is truly inspiring, especially
given the low light levels many forests have.

I ran across your site a couple of nights ago and I am totally thrilled to find a standard to strive for. I am currently wound up in taking pictures with my Korona 5x7 field camera and printing them on my Elwood 5x7 enlarger. I am having a blast. I like the vintage aspect of the art and I am totally driven. Your work is beautiful. Without a question, Outstanding. Compliments to your ability to take the time and document each exposure with so much detail. Thank you for your guidance with the zone system. I know how to use it but still screw up sometimes. I hope to meet you sometime. I travel through Stockton frequently on my way to Lake Camanche. I would like to stop by and see some of your work. Regards,
Nice
job!

Your
work is very good. I like how you made the photos look like they are in

editing and manipulating photos, I truly enjoyed your work. Best of luck!

I just
love B&W photografy and yours is great.
Beautiful work. Stunning images and wonderful detail. The images have an Ansel Adams quality about them - the detail, the quality, composition. Superb. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Peter
Fantastic!
I was totally blown away with your photos. I'm taking up photography to
help with my design degree. Any tips for starting up would be really helpful.
After seeing this I will be a regular to your site. Thanks for the inspiration.
Wonderful....
I really enjoyed your site and shall definitely visit again. Keep up the
good work.. God bless, Ben.
I like
allot of the pictures on this site. I am really into B/W photography and
I enjoy reading all the techniques and mechanics that these people use.
The images are very textured and very realistic and they are very nice.
Your
photography is inspiring....
Superb
work Craig.
Amazing
our world in black and white, too.
The
images are wonderful.
I like

going to have my students check out your stuff, Thanks.
I just
saw your new photographs, they are beautiful. Thank you for notifying me
about them.
I really
love your photographs deep in the forest and the mountain ones, good luck
with your site.
Some
of the best photographic images of landscapes I've seen yet. The black
and white makes the images even more appealing to the human eye, creating
an image which seems to have been photographed yet manufactured in the
mind. I'm a musician and would really like to use some of your images for
the album cover design on "Little White Lies." Please feel free to contact
me if you are interested.
Stunning.
Your photography is well crafted and an inspiration to fellow photographers.
The influence of Ansel Adams is clear but at the same time you obviously
add something of your own to all of the compositions. Black and white is
the best medium for expressing the natural beauty of the earth and you
capture it so well. Please keep up the good work. (Makes me want to go
and buy a large format camera!)
I grew up very close to the site where you photographed the rapids of the Calaveras river. It was an inspiration to me to see that the beauty that surrounded me in my years of youth was captured by you. I cannot afford to purchase your print, but do want to extend my warmest thanks and appreciation for the moment that was captured by you on film. Matt

I really
love Print #217. Tenaya Lake is really beautiful and that is a fantastic
photograph. I am 16 and am currently studying Photography at school and
looked up your work. I am going along the same kind of theme for my project
and really liked the ones at Tenaya Lake. You are very talented and have
an eye for beautiful things.
What
beautiful photography!!!!
I like
#217, Tenaya Lake. I do volunteer work with the Yosemite Association and
and last October we did a restoration project on the east side of Tenaya
Lake. If you go there, you'll notice that the road near the picnic area
and the lake shore has been replaced with a meadow. That was the project
we did last October. I am considering the purchase of this photo, but I
can't decide between the 11" or the 16". I would definitely get the framed
version. Thanks
Very
nice work, I just started using a Wista 4x5 I love it.

Hi
-Sunday,
June 09, 2002 at 11:36:11 (EDT)
Looking
for advice on the best way to make money doing what I love to do "photography".
Just getting into large format with an old Burke & James Grover 4x5,
but have yet to take my first photograph. Won't till I can develop and
print. Any advice would be helpful.
Thank
you for taking beautiful photography. I can't wait to see others.
Absolutely
beautiful work. You have my deepest admiration.
Your
B&W wallpaper of Lake Tenaya is visually more interesting than a lot
of color photos. It appears we are all affected by Ansel's work in the
Valley. You have done very well in keeping the B&W art form alive.
It's
nice to see black & white nature photography done so well. You have
a great site! Thanks for the inspiration.
Enjoyed your site even though I didn't have time to look around much this time. Found it via Google looking for the specs on the Gitzo tripods Really Right Stuff is recommending because I have older and heavier Manfrotto gear I don't carry as often as I should. Sam
You do amazing work! Your photos are really moving, keep up the great work. Mike

- Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy viewing your online photographs.
LF B&W images - well done, of course - never cease to appeal to me
and I don't know why. Here in Baltimore there aren't many (or any!) b&w
landscape workers to compare notes with. I'd give anything to have a group
of western photographers - good ones like yourself - be let loose here
my area just to see what photographs they'd produce, This is the kind of
inspiration I need. A pipe dream. Anyway keep up the good work. Nice to
see classic photography beautifully done. Good looking site, too!
I've
just found your page. The images are stunning!
I'm
not sure I've emailed you before but it's a pleasure to see your photography
and gain inspiration from it. I have a great desire to start shootin on
large format as soon as I can afford a good camera.....wishing you well...Bip
Your photos took my breath away. I was looking for something like this a while ago, but I could not find it on the net. I loved all your photographs. I was just wondering if I can use one of them for my wallpaper desktop. Thanks in advance. Dexter
I really
like your Photographs, however I could do a lot better. You have good texture
and the Black and White photos are fabulous. You need to work on your backgrounds
they are to plain, and not that visual, because you can bearly see what
you are trying to take. Anyways have a nice day.
Mr.
Wells, I love your work. I'm an aspiring b&w professional and especially
love your work in and around Yosemite. Many years ago I lived in the valley
for 1 year. I too fell in love with the area.

Beautiful work Craig, I love especially the Relics from the past. I love the inspirational thought given to you just prior to finding these beautiful creation which only time can bring to life. I have one I took, well it two shots of an old sheep herders shack, one is of the window from the out side the other is the window from the inside. I was inspired by these pictures to write a short poem, its called "The Beauty Of Age" Out

Great
pictures! It's another point of viewing this beautiful world that we, ordinary
people ignore it. You have Eyes. And Mind. And you really can change the
world as you wish. I really love your point of view and your work and I
wish you so much to notify me of all your news. Thank you for all!

enjoyed seeing your fine work. I also do large format landscape but don't

I have
come across your site a number of times and now I cannot restrain myself
any longer :) I simply love your style! If I ever had role models, you
would certainly be one of the them. I hope one day I will be able to do
what you do as a profession. Thank you for enabling us to view your work!
Great
images.
I like
what I see. There is an area I think you should check out. Emma Lake is
between Walker and Bridgeport on 395 and it is possibly the most beautiful
lake i have ever been to.
Keep
up the great work.
I really
enjoy photography. Your images took my breath away. You are remarkable!
Keep up the excellent work.
No
suggestions needed... It is perfect! Pure magic, astounding views, wonderful
sites, flawless works.
G'day Craig, it is great to share with others, I have sold a few paintings (when I need new equipment) but I mainly give them to people who ask. My work is Australian landscapes and pioneer relics. Your part of our world looks so very beautiful and tranquil, when I get the hang of this web thingy I will send you some images of my part of our planet, very different but stunningly beautiful like your mountains. Thank you for sharing. Cheerio,
Bhappy.
I visited
Yosemite in 1979 and came away overwhelmed by its beauty and the original
images by Ansel Adams I saw there and in Carmel. I am a professional photographer
today, although sadly not the landscape photographer I was determined to
be then. I came upon your website by accident and was absorbed by the images.
Black and white photography is still to me the most stunning of photographic
mediums and I think many of your photographs were stunning. So many B&W
images are mere imitation of Adams' work, but your images were very distinctive
and with a distinct style of their own. In a world where digital images
are ever encroaching on us, it is refreshing to see dedication to the traditional
way so effectively and creatively used. Thanks for the inspiration.
Wonderful
photographs. your notes are interesting. Especially about catching the
falling camera. I have spent time in those mountains and welcomed the view
your photographs just gave me.
I love
the imagery in your black and white.
Art Romance: Paintings by Enriquillo Beautiful photos and a really elegant site! Congratulations!

your work was wonderful, it is startling how close it is in content
to my own! The images are just great - you are obviously very gifted. Keep
going.
I think
you do amazing work and have helped to mentor me in amazing ways. You are
truly gifted.
I really
enjoyed your photographs of the relics. I am a fan of black and white photography
and I just loved your picture of the old door hinge. Your pictures have
inspired me to take a closer look at the old and forgotten. AL

I really
like the site. I am doing my final project on Tranquility and many of your
images have inspired me. I am preparing to build a web page for my work
as well. How would you rate the cost of advertising compared to the revenues
brought in by your site? Has it been very profitable? If you have the time,
please let me know.
Very
nice work in the tradition of the Western Photographers.
Hmmm... :) ...Just
- GOOOOD !!
Very
enjoyable,
Beautiful!
You do a very nice job capturing the grandeur of the landscape in Yosemite.
Im glad you chose only black and white to do this, color would make it
seem less majestic somehow.
I am
a photography student and I like your photos very much. At this time I
am starting a project for one of my courses and I chose the theme "tranquility".
I am very lucky to have found your site and to be able to see your work.
I enjoyed the "tour" very much. I am 68 and have enjoyed photography since I developed my first roll at age 13. For the past 42 years I have been using a 2-1/4 X 3-1/4 Century graphic and Omega B8 enlarger and recently built a Bender 4x5 view camera and bought an ancient Omega D2, I hope soon to get a 1 degree spot meter and embark an a new challenge, the "Zone System". Your work is much like that of Ansel Adams. I have been trying to locate a professional critique service are you aware of any? Again I salute your site. -Monday,

Fabulous
B & W photography. I love your photos, beautiful b&w composition.
Fabulous
photography, I especially liked your mountain photos, reflecting in the
water, beautiful, hope as I am learning I can someday emulate your style.
Thanks for the reminder, we visited Yosemite last year, wonderful pics. Frank
Great
work, can you recommend any local "California" workshops that might be
beneficial to my aspiring photographic desire?
Very
enjoyable ! Great work........
Your
work looks technically good, and I envy you the time and equipment to pursue
your craft. I've been trying for years, too, but only with 35mm and 2-1/4
formats.
Fintry, Stirlingshire Scotland I'm
also a photographer, mainly b&w landscape, and I'm in the process of
setting up my own web site, and looking at yours and several other 'west

Fantastic
work... Was referred here by friend to check out the images. Beautiful,
majestic and inspirational. I'm without television at the moment and find
spending hours at your site immensely more rewarding than reruns of Sienfeld.
Hope you can get a commission over here one day and document our landscape
with your talent. Even once the cable comes back on I suspect that your
still have the best offer for my evening viewing.
Your
photographs are stunning. I know how hard you must work to get them. Your
web site is the best individual photographer's I've seen. Congratulations
and Best wishes Joseph Walsh
NICE
WORK
Keep
it UP
Wonderful
gallery! And superb work! I'll be back to see more....
Great
photography! Your selections of subjects, camera position, lens and
filter combinations, exposure and processing is producing really excellent
results. Perhaps you would be willing to share some of the technical
bits for those of us who have an interest in such things. Are you
a Zone System advocate?
Atitr Istanbul, Turkey Many
thanks for your B/W shooting.
Great
B/W !
Great
page! Great photos.
Very
beautiful imagery. Look forward to getting my site up soon, yours has given
me some inspiration to get with it!
Spellbinding.
Evocative.
Keep
up the good work!
I think
your photos are amazing. I love black and white photography. I just started
it again as a hobby. You are very talented.

Hello Craig, I thinking about the Large format photography. I started with an old 135 SLR camera now I work and I am "love with" 6x6 Yashica MAT124 G and Pentacon SIX TL camera with 3 lenses. So now I want to buy something bigger because the sharpness, tonality and the resolution of large format pictures is unbelievable - as I read. Martin
I had
a wonderful visit. Loved everything!!
I have
seen some wonderful pictures of Yosemite, many copy the way Ansel Adams
did it but your picture of the floating rock in Mercer River is phenomenal.
It is a beautiful picture that portrays the park's beauty different from
those normally photographed by others. Very unique and interesting perspective.
Excellent photo. I am sure it isn't the first time you have heard that,
but I thought I would tell you so you can hear it again!
Hey

I still remember seeing in the dark room. Anyways thought I would say hello.

Great
stuff.....
I think
your images are breath taking! currently I'm living in southern Il. after
15 years in New Mexico. We have no white water here, and rocky landscapes
are tough to find. But we do have a lot of beautiful old barns, hundred
year old churches, and antique rusting farm equipment-pumps etc. and beautiful
hardwood forests. I wish you continued success in your keeping of the light.
With a little luck you'll see my web page in about 6 months.
A splendid body of work. My home is in Idaho, and the images you have on display make me homesick for my mountains. Around here, the highest point is the First Union Bank building in downtown Raleigh. You have done a fine justice to the subjects you have observed. Thanks for your efforts, Terry

Dear
Craig,
Craig
your site is inspiring. I'm also a black & white fine art photographer
and I can really appreciate your work. I usually work with 4x5. A few years
ago I purchased a 8x10 Burke & James flat bed, but not until recently
have I decided to start using it.
Thanks
for all the breathtaking photos Craig. Keep shooting.

Dear Craig I am writing to ask for your comments about your Zone VI camera. It is my understanding that you had switched or planned to switch from a 135 mm to a 120 mm or wider lens. Has your experience been similar to that of Sergio Ortega (s.ortega@worldnet.att.net), who published on the internet, November 14, 1999, the following: "I owned the regular 4x5 Zone VI (the Wisner model) for years. I sold it earlier this year and got the Canham DLC. "The new lightweight Zone VI is the same design as the regular version. They are pretty, well made and very durable cameras, but they have their limitations when using wide angle lenses. "The reason I switched was due solely to the problems I experienced using wide angle lenses with the Zone VI. The same observations may be made of the Wisner design. "The Zone VI works well with normal to longer lenses (about 135mm and longer). When using lenses shorter than 135mm (in my case, 120mm, 90mm, and 75mm) the Zone VI requires the user to: 1) base-tilt the entire front standard to the rear, to achieve the shorter focusing distances necessary with these wide angle focal lengths, 2) rotate the camera bed downwards in order to clear the front of the bed from the lens' angle of view, and 3) then raise and axis-titlt the front lens panel to re-orient it parallel and center it to the film plane at the back. These movements are difficult to describe, but, do it once and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. "Not only are all these compensatory camera movements fussy and time-consuming, they also make the camera much less stable and prone to movement and vibration. Also, the bag bellows is necessary to achieve the above set-up and have any camera movements available. All in all, not the most efficient way to make an image in the field. "I won't tout all the advantages of the Canham when using WA lenses (I'll let Ellis Vener do that; he's the main reason I use the DLC now), but you would be much better off using a camera design that allows the use of these short focal length lenses without having to compensate and re-orient the entire camera to achieve the required lens-to-film distances, and change over to a bag bellows." Do you concur with Sergio's comments (1) about significant camera instability ("much less stability and prone to movement and vibration") when using a 120 mm or wider lens on the Zone VI camera, and (2) that it would be too bothersome to change over to the bag bellows in order to use a 120 mm or wider lens? I would appreciate very much your comments if you have considered buying a 4 x 5 other than the Zone VI to ease the use of wide angle lenses. I am guessing that you may have found the Zone VI camera is relatively inexpensive and light weight compared to many other 4 x 5 field cameras, has stood up well to frequent usage, is relatively compact in the closed position, fits well within your back pack or camera bag, is easy to set up rapidly, accommodates macro lenses that require an extension of 360 mm, and looks aesthetically pleasing when matched to a wooden tripod. I wonder how easily you can reach the operating knobs even while wearing mittens or gloves, and whether the camera allows for optical center axis lens tilt. I am unsure under what circumstances it is preferable to have a base tilt design. One of the alternative cameras that I would consider t the Zone VI camera would be a used Master Technika that goes for around $2000, which I assume offers great stability when used with wide angle lenses, would not require a wide angle bellows, is relatively compact when closed (approximately 7 x 7 x 4.5 inches), is easily set up, uses small sized lens boards (about 96 x 99 mm) that easily fit inside the pockets of a camera bag, can accommodate the entire lens range that a landscape photographer is likely to use, and weighs about 6 lbs. The MT would require tilt-down adjustment of the flat bed to avoid obscuring the wide angle lens. Perhaps you have considered the Technikardan 45 or 45s. The TK45 or TK45s is especially useful for vertical wide angle images because of greater lens and rear standard rise and ease of use. It is not a modular camera that can be upgraded to 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 like the Arca-Swiss (AS) field camera or the Sinar F, X, and P lines, but it is much less expensive than those cameras. It lacks the geared movements of the AS and Sinar cameras, but it has independently operated lens rise and tilt features. I do not know whether or not the Zone VI has only one knob to control both lens rise and tilt, and if so, whether it is a hassle. The TK45 and TK45s cameras can accommodate 1:1 image reproduction with lens up to 240 mm focal length, with the bellows extended to 480 mm. This is important if you are using a Rodenstock Apo-Ronar f9 240 mm lens or Schneider f9 210 mm G-Claron for macro work, instead of the f5.6 120 or 180 mm macro lenses sold by these companies intended chiefly for 1:1 closeups. The TK 45 and 45s are easily fitted with a roll-film back and the lift off levers allow quick change from vertical to horizontal format. I do not know whether or not you can do this with the Zone VI camera. It has been my experience that in Ilfochrome enlargements up to 11 x 14, there is not much difference between 120 mm and 4 x 5 format. I know almost nothing about the Canham DLC camera. I assume that it is not upgradeable to 5 x 7 like some other 4 x 5 Canham field cameras. I question but do not know whether it is as easy to operate and provides as much access to the control knobs as a Zone VI camera, TK 45 or MT. It does not require a bellows for use with a 120 mm lens. David

I was
absolutely mesmerized. I would very much like to have one or more in my

Beautiful
work, Craig. I am also a B&W fine art photographer (4x5). Also, excellent

Stunning
photography! Have added your site to my favorites.
You
really know how to capture the moment. Very inspirational to all of us
amateur photographers. Thank you ever so much for sharing your beautiful

I am a 16 year old Junior in high school who is taking ap photo. Thank you for your inspirational pictures. I am basically working on the same things as you. I use a 4x5 monorail that I use from my school and take Landscapes. Your show has helped me make a decision about what I need to do in my photography. The school that I attend is The Waterford School in Sandy, Utah. Our photography department holds a mammoth camera workshop every summer. You

Dear Craig: I enjoyed your web site very much. I encourage you to write an article for submission to View Camera magazine. Your portfolio of Sierra Nevada landscapes is excellent and would be of great interest to the readership. After
I saw what you had achieved with a 135 mm lens, I went out and bought one,
a Rodenstock Sironar S. It is remarkably small and lightweight. It has
the
The
salesman who sold me the Rodenstock 135 mm lens told me that the Nikon

a
I used to own a 115/6.8 Rodenstock Grandragon lens that I found very inconvenient. It took up too much space in my Zone VI camera bag, and the 82 mm filters for this lens (especially the polarizer and graduated center filter) were much more expensive than any 49 mm filters. Alhough the 115 mm covered 5 x 7, I noticed that I could not raise the lens more than 15 mm without needing a graduated center filter to keep even illumination. Use of the graduated filter resulted in a 2 f-stop loss. I prefer the more normal relationship between near and far achieved by the 135 mm. Depth of field is excellent at f22+. I am not concerned that the 135 mm covers only a 4 x 5 and has limited movement. Too few of my compositions require a lens shift. I was curious why you chose the 210 and 135 mm lenses and avoided more extreme wide angles such as the 75-90 mm or longer length lenses such as the 300-450 mm lenses. This might be a subject worthy of discussion in your article. I speculated that you wanted to avoid hassling with the adjustments of the flatbed that would be required if you used a 75 or 90 mm lens, and that you could preserve the depth of field you wanted with the 210 mm lens that would unavailable with the longer length lenses. Also, use of a combination of 135 mm and 210 lenses does not require changing from a standard to a bag bellows. I think readers would be interested in what inspired you to compose as you do. Many of your images have a diffuse light and limited range of light values that I especially like. These selections evoke a tranquility that seems to be what you greatly value. John Sexton has a similar style, as shown in his book, Quiet Light, especially his views of the Merced River within Yosemite Park taken at twilight. I try to emulate this style. I rarely take pictures where the range of light is greater than 4 f-stops. Your style stands in contrast to that of Brett Weston, who favored strong shadows, and extremes of black and white, shapes, and form. None of your images are dramatic backlit scenes with beams of light spreading out from a sun hidden from view. I am thinking of an advertisement featuring a photograph of such a scene taken by Joe Englander. Your compositions differ from those of David Muench, who usually has some object of interest in sharp focus in the foreground, and an appealing landscape in the background. Some of the classic images of Ansel Adams emphasized darkened skies and dramatic clouds (e.g., Yosemite during Winter Storm; backlit scene of clouds over Grand Tetons; horizontal clouds streaking across mountains at Lone Pine), while others are similar to your style (e.g., diffusely lit Aspens). Have
you ever considered using a 11 x 14 camera and make contact prints? You
have a pickup with which to transport such a camera. Used 11 x 14 cameras
Do you ever conduct workshops or weekend seminars? I think that you should give it a try. I would be interested. Please put me on your mailing list. Regards, David Caldwell. 5840 Soltero Drive, San Jose, CA 95123. 408-629-4138. -Thursday,

Craig,
Beautiful B&W nature photography. Adds a sense of peace when one is

Craig Boardmans career still lives on, and his soccer career is still alive
in the late 90's. This is not a footballer who has suddenly given in from
the injuries that have plagued his career like a lot of player s are doing
these days. Craig Boardman has been playing ever since joining Nottingham

Page
I really
enjoyed viewing your 'Ansel Adams' styled work. Very interesting to compare
to the different light we get here in the Canadian Rockies, despite your

Craig
this site is amazing!! I have never seen so many of your prints together,
at the same time. Quite an impact. And the site itself is just wonderful,
and easy to move around in. But back to the prints. WOW. Just to let you
know, my three ABSOLUTE favorites are Red Rock Cascade, Broken Sliding
Door, and Tenaya Lake Sunrise. When you get rich and famous, you will remember
to say 'Hi' to your lowly cousin, won't you??
I love
your pictures. I am in my first photography class right now and find photography
fascinating.

You

five years, and I have viewed thousands.
Nice
images and printed well. A treat to view.
Craig,
this site of yours is very well thought out, easy to navigate and download
images. The images are very impressive. I see some of the same sparkle
that I've seen in John Sexton and Ansel Adams' work. I agree with Dean
Hahnenberg, you need to charge more. They're worth it. Someday I hope to
obtain the same spiritual level in landscape photography that you and other
masters have. There's something about B/W images!!
You
have quite an eye for the art of photography.

I'm assuming you print your own images.
Thanks
for sharing these excellent images with me.
Raven Photo (Under Construction) I really
liked your images. I found many of them to be quite striking. I was
wondering how long you have had your site up and running? What kind of
sales success have you derived from your web site? Is photography a part
time endeavor for you or your full time career? How much time do you devote
to the upkeep and marketing of your web site? How much time do you devote
to business that your web site creates? I am asking you these questions
as I am thinking of putting up a photo web site of my own, but am unsure
whether it is worth the time and expense for someone like myself, who so
far, hasn't ever sold their photography.
Once again thank you. I really did enjoy your images. Mike

Your
prices are too low. I'm a photographer too, which means I'm usually too
broke to buy anything myself. But some people have money. You deserve some
of it; your work is excellent.
Looking
at sites which might most resemble the one I'd like to create for myself;
Yours is very well laid out, very nice photography by the way, and easy
to view. Thanks.
Craig,
Nice web site, I am also a Fine Art Landscape Photographer that uses a

at the Bristlecone Pine Forest visitors center north of Bishop. There is
a fantastic lake 20 miles north of Bishop called Rock Creek in the eastern
