# 106 - Waterfall, Hunt Creek, Calaveras County, California, 1999
This image is located just up stream by about 75 feet from Print #104. And as mentioned in that description this creek does not flow until there is significant rainfall and then it only flows for less than a week there after. I've photographed this waterfall many times with varying success due to differences in water level. I've seen this creek flow a raging torrent during the storm of mid February 1998, to nothing more than a small trickle. But for the ideal image the water has to be just right and the weather is best when slightly overcast which provides a nice even illumination. Setting up the camera for this image was tricky. I had to set up in the middle of the creek for the desired composition and directly behind me about two feet is a large poison oak bush, which I try to stay out of. The overall height of this fall is about 15 feet, it is tucked away in a small cove behind some oak trees and hard to find if you're not looking for it. Just behind me is a grand view of the San Joaquin valley. This is where the Sierra foothills just start to climb out the San Joaquin valley. |
