# 108 - White Water, Calaveras River, California, 1996
Early January 1996 a fellow photographer friend and I had been photographing the foothills of the Sierra in the vicinity of Milton, San Andreas, Valley Springs and Jenny Lind. On the return trip we stopped along the Calaveras river canyon just up stream from Jenny Lind. The river canyon is pretty steep in this area, about 500-600 feet on both sides of the river. There is one dirt road that leads down to the waters edge, this is an area we visit quite often since it has the easiest access to the river. Using a polarizing filter to cut the reflection of the opposite bank in the water darkened the water significantly which accented the highlights of the white water. A long exposure of 9 seconds smoothed the rapids to a silky appearance. This is the same section of river which appears in print #102, but here you are looking upstream instead of downstream. The perspective is of a completely different image. |
