January 1996 a fellow photographer friend and I had been photographing
the foothills of the Sierra in the vicinity of Milton, San Andreas, Valley
Springs and Jenny Lind. This was the first location we stopped at and photographed.
It is of an old abandoned schoolhouse in Milton California. I opted to
photograph from the rear of the building due to the complete front entrance
and overhang had been disassembled and removed. You could still enter the
building and it appeared that someone was using it for storage of lumber.
It was stacked wall to wall about 3 feet high. Only a few reminders of
its scholastic days still remain.
In
December 2001 the majority of this schoolhouse collapsed in a strong storm.
