After
a late morning hike down the Merced River in Yosemite Valley in October,
1992, I spotted some bright yellow foliage off in the distance across the
meadow. I hiked towards the yellow plants through the muddiest portion
of the meadow (not willingly) and rested a while under a shady pine tree
while another photographer was in the middle of the meadow doing some close-ups
of some plants. When she was done I searched for the desired composition
that would make for a nice photograph. I came across a section of yellow
foliage that had a nice curving branch which starts in the lower left corner
and gracefully angles up towards the right and curves up at the end. This
branch strengthens the lower portion of the image. I opted not to include
any sky in the image for I felt that it would detract from the autumn foliage,
the meadow and the cliffs in the distance. |
