This
photograph was taken along the road to Virginia Lakes in the eastern Sierra
Nevada in the vicinity of Mono Lake. The creek pictured here is Virginia
Creek which comes out of Virginia Lakes. This area is in the Conway Summit
region and is well known for it's aspens and their associated fall color.
I walked around the area searching for a prospective photographic opportunity
and felt that the composition above was one I liked most. I set up the
camera in this location and waited for the sun to set behind the high peaks
of the eastern Sierra just to the west of me. Once the harsh shadows of
the sunlight had receded and the scene was in shade is when I made the
exposure. The scene appeared to glow from within with only the sky glow
to provide illumination. Earlier in the day there were numerous photographers
in the area, but when the light was at it's best, at least for black and
white photography there was not a soul in sight, except a couple of curious
travelers who spotted me down by the waters edge and came over to ask me
a few questions about my photography and camera gear. |
